FONTS_FAQ
Why are fonts used for fingerprinting?
The set of fonts installed on your device is relatively unique. By detecting which fonts you have, websites can create a partial fingerprint of your browser.
How does font detection work?
A baseline font (like monospace) is measured. Then each test font is applied to hidden text. If the dimensions change, that font is installed.
Can I prevent font fingerprinting?
Some browsers like Brave and Firefox can limit detected fonts. You can also use browser extensions that block font enumeration or report fake fonts.
How many fonts is normal?
Most systems have 50-200 fonts installed. Custom fonts from design software or additional language packs can significantly increase this number.
